I am just trying to help.

I thought you have one and it works. Then you mentioned the battery is in it's last leg. Hmmm.  I am confused but that's not an issue as I am always is.

It works, but now that my APC's battery is at or beyond it's expected useful life

Why not keep the old one.  It still works :o

You know those APC batteries can be replaced right?!? :duh:

I understand.

I mentioned the battery by way of explaining I need to do something with the APC.  Granted, buying a new battery is easily the less expensive route, but I see this need for change as an opportunity to get something which will serve me better.  I've had this unit since before I bought a Mac and it worked well with my PC, but I'm greedy and I want the same auto-shutdown capabilities with my Mac.  I tried to make that clear in my posts.

Apparently I'm asking for way too much if the few suggestions I've received accurately reflects the UPS market, but I have a real problem supporting a company which blatantly refuses to return the favor.  I've used APC exclusively for the past 15 years or so, but they'll get nothing else from me until I get more from them.

Jim,

Not sure how you feel about Tripp-Lite but supposedly they support auto shutdown with OS X.

From the description of the "InternetOffice 700": HID-compliant USB port enables optional unattended system shutdown without data loss in the case of extended power failure; USB cable included. HID compliant USB port enables integration with built-in power management and auto shutdown features of Windows and Mac OS X. PowerAlert software available via FREE download from es.tripplite.com.

Now, whether it actually works well is hard to say but at least they seem to support it.

Glad all is well.

Thanks, Mike.  I've never had particularly warm 'n fuzzy feelings about Tripp-Lite, but I'll certainly compare their offerings to those from Belkin.

'Course, I'm not all that enamored with my long-time favorite, either.

Hope you and yours are doing well, my friend.

mike - as of about three months ago (the last time we talked to our tripp-lite rep) the os x features were still being 'fully implemented'. from what i remember, they tried to tell us the full os x compatibility was via serial cable, which coincidentally no mac ships with. the usb implementation was promised as an upgrade, but not yet released.

jim - i understand your frustration with apc, and if i were in your shoes likely wouldn't purchase again. if you do go with the tripp-lite, just make sure you pick it up somewhere with a generous return policy, and of course report back to us!

Will do, JP, and thanks much for the tidbit on your dealings with Tripp-Lite.  :thumb:
