Hello- What part of the circuit is the diode in? Would it be the bias circuit?

Yes, I purchased these about a month ago (1'st pair of tube amps) and put new boards in , new sockets, solid silver wire,Jensen copper caps, eh kt88's, new can caps, and just did the bandpass filter on the inputs and thought i would get rid of the selenium rectifier for the bias circuit.

You can use a silicon diode in place of it. Just remember that it will be more efficient, so you will have to readjust the bias voltage. Make sure the filter cap for the bias supply can handle a few more volts.

You might want to consider just replacing the whole bias circuit - from memory triodeelectronics.com have a kit for that.
