Bryston amps are built like tank, i know. But do somebody think that a 7 year old amp might have come down somewhat , performance wise, or nothing would have changed in a 7 year old bryston affecting the sound .Long time Bryston owner may like to share their experience .

I have a good story for you.

About 10 years ago I was in a recording  studio - (I think we were recording Holly Cole). Anyway I was in Studio 2 and the owner of the studio came by and ask if I was from Bryston and if I would come with him to Studio 5 to look at something.  I obediently followed.

We entered the studio and on the front wall of the studio were 6 Bryston amplifiers - green lights a glowing!  He says sit down I want you to hear something and plays me a master tape of an earlier recording recently done in that studio.  He says what do you think of the sound - I say excellent - why? He says - see those 6 Bryston amps?  I say - 'yes'.  He says - they've been on for 18 years?

Truly excellent, never turned off in 18yrs,and excellent sound besides.
And if Bryston is right for Holley Cole, engineers,or anybody else that lives 24hrs a day with music, then if you haven't given a Bryston any thought, you probably should.
Besides my own ears,I do pay strict attention when world class musicians or any musician uses Bryston as
they have a pretty good ear of how they want their music to come across.
Bryston is definately a solid bridge in which to cross over to the emotional side of music.

I have owned lots of vintage equipment, over 30-40 years old that performed perfectly. 7 years is nothing....although there are people that panic when their equipment gets 1 year old, then it doesnt smell new anymore so they get some new stuff....

Seven years is nothing for a solid state amp.  Although not a Bryston, my father owns Adcom equipment from the late 1980s and it is still going strong driving a pair of Mint condition Bozak Concert Grand speakers purchased in 1972.  My Bryston 4B SST is three years old and I might consider an upgrade when it is no longer under warranty in 2026!

Cheers,

John

Some things are built very well but just can't be repaired.  There are brands that no longer exist and the owner(s) of the former brand don't support the products and that includes some expensive door stops.  Very fews things get the use of something placed in a recording studio and don't have problems.  I have some older stuff including an Adcom 555 in the bedroom powering the left and right channels

Wow that's what I like to hear! My 4b ST is now ten years old and, like I've stated earlier, is still producing' what seems to' be small nuances of details (all things beind equal in my system). I will probably opt for the SST 2 but would be reluctant to let the ST go. Perhaps it's the synergy I find with the JBL 120s that work so well. So to James and the gang, what ever I do my hats are off to you and the great pruduct  that Bryson is and will  :thumb: :thumb:always be.........RMURRAY.

As others here have said, 7 years is nothing for solid state gear, and Bryston is extraordinarily well made gear. That said, there is a chance that you may not be imagining things -- I have a 10 year old 4B-ST, and a couple of years ago, I noticed something wasn't quite right -- it sounded like one channel was louder than the other. Seeing as I live a couple of hours drive away from Bryston, I drove out there, and Mike took all of 10 minutes to figure out that it was the balanced/unbalanced switch at the back of the unit that was at fault. It took him another 15 minutes to replace it and then he hooked it up to the test gear and reran the bench tests to ensure it was within spec. The amp tested out virtually identical to the original spec sheets.

The moral of the story is that even with very well made gear, sometimes something stops working correctly. This is *exactly* why I only buy bryston for audio gear -- Not just because it is the best, and not just because it is outstanding value, but also because in the very unlikely event that something does go wrong 10 years down the road, you can count on them to fix it quickly, thoroughly, and professionally. I don't think you'll find a better company to deal with in high end audio, or probably any industry for that matter.

I have a 4Bst, and a 3Bst that have been pluged in & on since they were purchased new.  Well, they were unpluged a couple times to be moved while the room was painted, and a few times during tornados.(lightning)   We have some bad ones here in the spring.  Anyway, they are still going strong!
