Salk HT2-TLs with Sierra Surrounds?
« on: 6 Jan 2010, 03:54 am »
I was thinking of moving my Sierras back to surround duty so I can make room for some new HT2-TLs with HTC.

'Recycling' my Sierras would free up some badly needed budget for better electronic gear, but I am afraid of timbre match, ohm disparity, etc, as compared to going with HT1 surrounds.

I know there are some here with Sierras and I really hope they might care to comment.

Thank You Very Much!

I have several pairs of Sierras and have heard nuances ST RT's.  Terry (TJHUB) has the HT2TL's and has heard my sierras and he has owned them as well, maybe he will chime in.

My thoughts,
For surround duty for movies, don't waste the $ on upgrading them, they are a fine speaker especially as a surround.  If Multi CH music listening is your thing, timbre matching is more important although not as crucial as matching the front 3.  I would say put the $ elsewhere rather than spending a ton to upgrade the surrounds to match, no offense to the Salk crew:)

For what its worth, I agree.  Timbre matching on surrounds is not generally considered all that critical.

Wow, Jim, thank so much for chiming in! I really feel a lot better hearing it from da man.

I suppose it would still not matter too much while listening in 5.1 to hi rez discs?

Of course it becomes a moot point in pure 2ch, 3.0 sacd's, and Dolby True HD 5.1 Blu-Ray,
so no worry there. Right?

By the way, what would be your current lead time for (2) HT2-TLs and (1) HTC in standard configuration
and veneer?

Thank You Very Much!

Well, you may notice a difference, but no where near the difference if you didn't match the front three.  I wouldn't worry too much.  However, if it is bothering you after you've upgraded everything else that you want to, then revisit it.  But I wouldn't put it before finding some "better electronic gear."  Just my $0.02

Right.  I doubt you'd hear a difference.  Just level match everything and enjoy.

Well, that depends on how they mixed the music.  If it is pruely ambient sound in the rear channels, I doubt it would make that much difference.  But if they mixed instruments and vocals, it some make some.  Would it be enough to cause you to have to switch speakers?  I doubt it.

That would be my opinion.

Our goal this year is to get most speakers out the door in 30 days.  We are going to be expanding the size of our shop in the next month or so and that will help.  We are currently at about 45 days for those models, but we're working on it...
