Piccolo question
« on: 24 Jun 2009, 11:35 pm »
Is the Piccolo circuit optimized for the gain structure  of 12, 20, 26 dB ?   By that I mean, if I wanted to change the gain levels to lets say 6, 10 and 20dB would the headamp still sound as good or would it be best to keep the original gain structure for which this amp was optimized for? Would  different JFETs give better results (I do realize they come  pre-installed)?   I am guessing it just resistor changes that need to be done as per the  Piccolo MM post below?

Apologies  in advance for the noob questions.
Cheers

I sense you will love the Piccolo if you supply it with clean power from batteries or a regulated power supply.

Don't skimp on the power supply caps.  You will never be quieter than your power supply.  That does not mean you need to spend a million dollars.  Panasonic and Nichicon make some excellent caps, but look into the FK Black Gates if you are after something sublimely quiet.

Cheers!

Yes, you can change gain to whatever you want.  As long as it is lower than 26dB.
