Pre-built or DIY?

What kind of a budget do you have?

Something like a Maelstrom-X would be fun with Jerichos, even if you don't use anywhere near its SPL potential :)

my main suggestion is, whatever sub you decide on, choose two and use an active outboard x-over to cross them w/the jericho's...

Infinite baffle is another excellent option, if:

1. You have your own place;
2. You have a space > 10 x Vas that can be used as a cabinet;
3. The space should be kept near room temperature;
4. The space doesn't have hinged doors (that slamming can blow out the cone).

The Cult of the Infinitely Baffled website has all the information you need to get started.

Hi guys sorry that I'm now replying to your suggestions but I've been offline for a bit.

Hey JimJ, I'd prefer pre-built for one and the Maelstrom-x is going to be way too costly especially in the shipping.Nice suggestion though thank you.

Piek I already own two pairs of horns and love them both.Not in the market for another but thanks for the suggestion.

JLM  I don't fit into any of the four requirements you've mentioned.Once again thanks.

Doug  you and I are more on the same line of thought.Can you make a specific recommendation in terms of  sub woofers.Also to reduce clutter I'm hoping to go with two active subs.

what is your budget?  even if you go w/powered subs, i would still recommend using an outboard active x-over.  you can do this by setting the sub's built-in x-over at their highest setting, and then using about an octave lower on the x-over.  i recommend this because built-in x-overs on powered subs are usually lacking, compared to something like a marchand x-over, and because you will get best results by actively crossing your main speakers.  you definitely don't wanna use a powered sub's built-in crossover to filter your mains...

sorry, i cannot help you w/this; i have not done diy.  but, if you do a websearch on diy subs, there is a ton of info out there.

i think this will be a good idea - you can get amazingly good stand alone amps for subs that are dirt cheap...

Lots of good options.

Shiva-X from DIYCable
SDX12 from http://www.creativesound.ca
Dayton Quatro from Parts Express
Mag v4 from http://www.stereointegrity.com

Any particular reason for paper cones only?

I thinking speed in terms of the drivers being light.Plus the drivers in my Jericho horns are paper cones as well.Regards derockster

A pretty good paper here: www.diycable.com/main/pdf/WooferSpeed.pdf  about how Mms (moving mass) isn't really that important when talking about woofer "speed" :)

Plenty of good poly or aluminum cone designs out there.

Another model to consider: http://www.mach5audio.com/zen/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65&products_id=186
