finally found a decent cheap cd player-philips dvd580m
tried the pioneer sacd player and thought it sounded like crap for 2 channel, tried a cheaper philips a few weeks ago and the sound was great but it made alot of noises at startup, this new one is very small 8''x11'' has digital and coax outs, also muti channel audio outs (5.1).weighs about 10 lbs or better, has a wierd power supply- it uses a 12 volt power adapter(but no mention in the manuel about how to use it as a portable?)
it apears to be built like a tank, full  control buttons on the front. :thumb:
i guess i like the philips sound in my system

More details please!

With 5.1 output is it SACD or DVD?

How does it sound?

How much does it cost?

Have you tried it as a transport only?

What is your associated equipment?

has 5.1 outs but no sacd, dvda :nono:
sounds very nice compared to my toshiba-much better top end(cymbal decay now) , very clean sound(also different than my toshiba)mids are sweet-bass is right on, between songs there is nothing -dead quiet  on some songs the background sounds are now more intigrated and clear(better definition :?: ).
its a front loader also(i moved it around ,upsidedown and jiggled it while it was playing ,never missed a beat).
wood sounds real(the sticks that some guy bangs and such)
i never noticed before but with the toshiba some parts of songs were too -not blended well, now everything is on even par. .
cost 117$ at target.
its hooked up to my yamaha rxv1 with the digital out(is that a transport?)

speakers are rick craig 3.5 ways based on his phastest design-powered by odyssey mono extremes
vmps large with the upgrades powered by odyssey standard monos
yamaha rxv-1
cheapo philips cd
