4b-sst blown channel????
« on: 20 May 2009, 02:22 pm »
I sat down to listen to some music on my Bryston system last night only to find almost no sound coming from the left channel!!!

My analytical mind quickly sprung into action. I switched the interconnects from the pre to the power amp, left to right, right to left. Same result, no sound from the left speaker, this could mean only one thing:

=> The left channel was finished, blown!!!   :o

Questions filled my mind, how would I live without it, how would I afford a new 4B-SST

or fianlly

.
..
...
....Why didn?t I think to turn the balance knob to 12?o clock before???

DOH!!!  All still working like a dream after 10 years. Well done Bryston   :D

 i remember one time i spent the afternoon  cuz my soundstage was screwd up. As it turned out i went back behind my amp the nite before after a few cold ones and change my gain from 1 to 2 volts.
It took awhile for me to figure out i had one channel on 1 volt and the other on 2 volts.....

I've done that also+couldn't figure out why my 28 wouldn't power up,
#1-had her set to single ended instead of balanced  :o,oh and how about the breaker on the back :o.Now were back in business.I try not to get too excited,
I did say TRY.I'm pretty sure someone else is behind it all,It's sure nice when
things are the way they should be.Now that I have installed my AES cable,no problem :thumb:,now  I am going for the Bryston 10B-sub hook up,this is gonna be a goodin .

I have to put in my cents as well.
Funny but I did have sound out of my left Channel but very low volume.
As It turned out I was pluged as Single in Put , But I ways connected to my 4Bssst2 as Balanced.
There is a Switch on the back Balanced or Single.

Pick the right One ! I did !!!!!!!!!!!!!

All Problems cleared up ! I had my Volume back on my Left Channel

Hope that Helps

When all else fails don't forget about internal fuses.  I was just about to send one of my amps in for repair of the left channel when I decided to take off the top plate.  Staring me right in the face was a toasted 7 amp fuse serving the output stage.  A trip to Radio Shack and 2 bucks later I was back in business.
