Interesting experience with Dynaudio
« on: 20 Jul 2010, 01:25 pm »
I visited my mom this weekend, and worked some on her home theater while I was there.  She had put new carpet in the room, and also painted the walls.  I dropped some wires down the the wall for her, and then set everything up back like it was before the room was recarpted and painted.

I spent some time listening to the speakers. (Dynaudio Contour S  1.4, Anthem MCA-50 amp, Integra 40.1 preamp).

I was amazed to hear the difference in those and my HT2-TLs. I guess I've become used to the Salks, but while listening to the Dynaudios, it honestly felt like i was sitting in front of something from best buy or walmart.

They did sound very nice while watching movies though.  It was making me miss my 5.1 setup.

That is all

Your equipment is a clear step up from what your mother has as well. And I'm sure room acoustics will make profound differences. But we are glad you like your Salks.

Yes, my intent wasn't to put the Dynaudios down, but to provide a little priase for Salks.  Until I owned Salks, Dynaudios were among the best speakers I had ever heard.

I don't disagree with you. I would go for a Salk speaker if it was choosing between that and a Dynaudio, unless I could get the Megalines for just the shipping cost!

No worries bud!

I wont disagree with your findings either.

That said, when I brought in the Salk Song Towers *dome version* into the abode, I had a chance to compare them directly to a number of loudspeakers, to include the Dynaudio Focus 140 *which at the time, was around the same price as the ST's*. Ultimately, both speakers competed very well against each other, with neither party claiming victory in terms of overall sonic wizardry. The ST's had their strengths, and the Danes had theirs.

Most of the time this whole thing boils right down to associated gear, set-up, and the pair of ears that happen to be listening at the time. I will say this though, you *felt* like you got a lot more with your money with the Salks in terms of physical solidarity and heft!

I very much liked the Contour 1.4's I spent time with, but I've never directly compared them side-by-side with the Salk's.  I think I know which I'd walk away from, though. ;)
