I am fairly new to the Bryston Circle. My question is, what are the technical differences between the original 2B and the current 2B-Lp?
I purchased an older 2B off from e-bay about 3 months ago for $200.00. I am very inpressed by the build quality of this amp. It has an all aluminum body, xlr inputs and very stout binding posts. This amp had previously been owned by the Canadian Broadcasting Company. It looks to be well maintained and I was told that the capacitors have been replaced (4x6800uf).
The visible differences are that the newer model uses toroidal transformers but seemingly the amp boards look to be nearly identical.
The reason that I bought this 2B are that I am on a fairly tight budget. I am currently in college and my funds did not permit purchasing a newer Bryston st series amplifier. My associated equipment includes, a PS Audio 4.6 preamplifier, Dynaudio Contour 1.3 speakers, a Pioneer Elite DVD, CD, SACD player, and XLO pro 600 speaker wires.
This system may not scream high-end but to my ears the sound quality is very polished and refined. What could I expect if I were to upgrade to a 3B or 4B? Also what advantages are there to the newer st series. The sst series will be out of my financial picture for quite some time so it is not even a consideration right now.
Final note the Contour 1.3 is a stand mount two-way speaker with a 4 ohm impedance and 85db-86db sensitivity. Also I live in a fairly small apartment and really want to maximize sound quality.
Any information and hints would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You, Earl Y.
