Hey Guys,

Monday I took delivery of three Blacksand cables, 1 Silver Ref. and 2 Violets but unfortunately I have not had a chance to
play around with them... see my other thread about my fuse/tube problem.

Last night I had a phone conversation with John at Blacksand and he more or less echoed the findings that both you
guys (Midnite Mick & rlmacklin) have just mentioned.

In light of that talk, John is going so swap me another Silver for one of the Violets.
Once I have the SWL back up and running with a new rectifier tube I will try a few different
combinatons of the PC's on my 14B, MF CD-Pre24 and SWL.

  A REFRESH

After all the dust has settled, What is everyone using now for their PC on the SWL 9.0 Sig Pre?
This is my next move for the system.

After trying a few power cables (all the VH Audio and Black Sands range) I settled on a DIY cable using Neotech NEP-3001 cable and Oyaide C-004/P-004 ends and shield floated at the IEC end.

TelWire cord on Modwright SWL 9.0 Signature

I was going to send two of my Black Sand Violet Z1s for John at Black Sand
to re-terminate with Oyaide P-004/C-004 plug and IEC.  He chose to make me new ones
(said conductivity would be better that way).  They sounded significantly better than stock Violets
(which is why I ordered them up!).

Then Grover Huffman sent me one of his new carbon-nickel shielded power cords with same Marinco/Wattgate plug and IEC as had been the standard on stock Violets.
I ordered up 2 sets of cryoed Oyaide P-004/C-004 from Chris VenHaus of VH Audio and
shipped straight to Grover while I sent his power cord back for him to install the Oyaides
and make me another second one with Oyaides so I would be comparing "apples to apples"
in doing listening tests of Oyaide Violets vs. Oyaide Grovers power cords.
The Grovers were perhaps a little quieter and more neutral across the sonic spectrum but seemed to deliver slightly less current than the Violets.  So I used the Grovers on source and Modwright tube linestage and put the Violets doing duty on the center channel and surround preamps.

Reviews of newcomer TelWire cord looked interesting and I ordered one of those (which comes with the Oyaide P-004/C-004 as standard) - to throw into the mix for my listening tests.
After burning in for a week and listening on source and Modwright it came out on top on each of these components, so I ordered another one before the intro price of $399 ran out (that was for a 5-footer and I got 6-feet cords at $429 each).
The TelWire seems near perfectly neutral and balanced across the sonic spectrum - with better bass and more midrange body, and tone/timbre just sound more realistic to me.
The frequency extension both high and low is superb and everything comes out of an even blacker silence.
The TelWire cord is extremely flexible. It appears to have a braid pattern similar to Lessloss PCs, but the outer jacket material covers all three conductor bundles.

So Grover's power cords with Oyaide -004s on center and surround preamps now and Black Sand Violet Z1s with -004s running on the Odyssey Mono Extreme SE power amps (alternating with BS Silver Ref MkVs for listening tests at the moment).

Waiting to try the 10 awg version Tel-Wire with Oyaide -004's when it is finalized - on my power amps and power regenerator.

Revelation Audio Lab's Precept on 9.0SE sig. and Precept II on ModWright Denon DVD-5900 tubed PS.  Both PCs purchased along with Revelation's umbilical prior to the slight increase in prices.  :o

I use cheap Volex shielded power cables on all of my components.  They work great.  I have tried more expensive power cables, but I couldn't tell any difference so I sold 'em and spent the money elsewhere!   :o

FWIW, we will be using all VooDoo power and signal cabling at RMAF 2008 (Rm. 1010 - come check us out!).  I have heard a VERY early version of the VooDoo power cords quite a few years ago and was very impressed.  I then heard their products used throughout the system that our HK distributor showed with and was very impressed.  Bruce and I met in HK in support of our mutual HK distributor and I was impressed enough with the sound to agree to use their products at RMAF.

I will have them here to break in before the show and will share my impressions.  VERY good stuff and very well built.

Take care,

Dan

Dan, I would love to know your thoughts on the VooDoo cord in comparison to the LessLoss.

I've tried a few cords on my 9.0 SWL Sig. and I have a new favorite which is a big step up from everything else I've tried before and seems like a perfect match for this linestage.

The powercord is a DIY cord made from Acrolink 6N-P4030 cable with an Oyaide P-004 plug and Oyaide C-004 IEC.

The sound is better than I have ever heard from my system. Its warm yet articulate and extended without brightness.  I could throw in lots of adjectives and superlatives, but I'll simply say that this cable sounds GREAT and complements the 9.0SWL perfectly.

There are also pre-made versions of this cord form various sources such as:
