Stratos Monos HELP??
« on: 11 Apr 2009, 04:47 pm »
Hi, All!  I have acquired a pair of Stratos mono's Extreme's, redboards, glass ceiling.  When I try to plug in my XLR i/c's I get a loud hum/feedback from the Lorelei speakers.   RCA's no problems.  I would prefer to use the XLR's because they are a much better cable.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The XLR connections are NOT balanced inputs, so the wiring into them needs to be single ended.  I don't have the pinouts handy but Klaus can guide you on this.  If your source is single ended you might as well use the RCA's.

hello, ducky7566, France ... I had the same problem toi.i 've opened a stratos, and saw that the sheet is bridged xlr to rca plug ... in addition, the plug is connected with xlr 2 fil ...
the stratos is not symmetrical, so the xlr is useless ... I wonder why ODYSSEY has brought an? .
apart from that, I just finished filming ... and now the sound is delicious ... everywhere ... cool.

sorry for my bad english... :oops:it's automatic translate...

you can always use and xlr to rca adaptor.  i have one and can send to you to try...or you can reterminate the xlr to rca at the end that goes to the stratos.  as mentioned, the stratos is not "true" balanced anyways.

The xlr connects on my Stratos amps were not wired correctly either.
Check the polarity connections! Klaus I think is used to a European or
overseas convention...I think.... Easy tweak though....

Yes,  Steve is correct.  There are 2 different ways to do the XLR  connections,  unlike an RCA,  where the positive and the ground is clearly defined,  and there is no real standard on which way to go,  which makes XLR  matching something of a 50/50 shot at times.  We have ground on pin 1,  and pin 2 is hot.   Just reverse the pins on either component,  and you'll be fine.

Klaus hello ... ducky, Paris, France ...
I just bought 2 blocks stratos mono extreme running ... just finished ... cool, the sound is wonderful ... I listen to a pre-harman kardon signature 1.0, and the speakers are infinity kappa 8A ...
source is cambridge cd 640 cv 2  + 3 D lab converter DAC  2000 24/96...i am very happy with the result ...
but I wonder if, with a preamp odyssey, the result will be better ...
Candella or tempest? I do not know if they have a telecomande? compulsory for me, difficulties for moving.
no harm in France ... not easy to try a preamp ...

I opened a topic on HCFR, a forum where I talk about my experience with stratos ...

trying to send you the lien.si you find 5 minutes to take a look ...

thank you, for what you do for us, the "crazy hi-fi." ducky ...  8)http://www.homecinema-fr.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1030&t=29907528
