A few of versions back of iTunes it was written not to use the iTunes volume slider (software) since it degraded the music quality ( ~removing data bits ) I remember reading that this was no longer the case in version in Version 7. Is it conclusive that no music data is being lost with the recent versions (8.0)?
I ask because would would like to use the software volume in iTunes to level match during informal digital vs. analog comparisons. That way I can just switch the input selector on my preamp. I currently change the volume at the preamp but that takes a bit of time checking back and forth with the the SPL meter. I'd rather set it once for an album and then switch back and forth for a more immediate comparison. If there is some question about the current iTunes volume control implementation I would not use that for digital to analog comparisons.
Normally, through my main system I playback itunes at 100% volume. Original AIFF(WAV) format.
Anyone have the details?
