Real wood floors definitely have a sound of their own.  They're very highly prized in top notch recording studios.  If you can swing it and want a hard floor, they're gorgeous.

Haha!  I have solid white oak floors with 2.25" wide planks.  Unfortunately, while the planks were covered until we bought the house eight years ago, and the planks are in very good condition, the floors were installed 106 years old and are suspended over my basement.  The sound sometimes seems louder in the basement under my listening room than in the room with the speakers.  I think that there may be tad of "resonance".   :o
