The improvements are in the upper midrange and high frequencies. The transformers now go out another octave than the average original transformer. Specifically, MK1 transformers varied from 25-55 KHz (-3db), the ones I wind range from 80-90 KHz.

I am proud to say they equal the revered Peerless 20-20 series and exceed them in half the insertion loss which results in tighter bass (damping) and more 10% output power. For the given power the core is smaller which results in lower iron loss. In every case I have found reducing core size to be a very good thing.

Roger,

Are the transformers in the standard RM-200 MkII units the same as those used in the MkI version of the amp?  Am asking to get a better idea of the refinements between the original and the MkII beyond the capacitor forming feature.

Thanks.

The standard MK II output transformers are better than the ones in the MK I. There are some other improvements in the driver also. The driver upgrade can be done for $350. Changing out the transformers in a MK 1 to MK II is $600 wound in house or $1000 if I wind them. In either case, I go over the amp personally.
