Bias tight rope

Hi guys, wondering besides heat issue(NOT ME)if the bias setting is set too high,
how does it effect the overall sound of music(distortion, less dynamics,AM ish sound, collapsed soundstage.
If the bias is set to low,how would it effect the music.
My amps are close to perfect :thumb:,.I'm just curious as to what a person might hear if amps were too high or too low,Thanks.

Hi Don,

Think of bias like tuning a car engine - you need to have the appropriate amount of gas and air and timing to optimize the power and efficency of the engine.  So with an amplifier there is a 'sweet spot' when the bias should be (given a slight fudge factor).

Hi Don,

Did you check your own bias?  Is it possible for the bias to deviate in time?

I have enjoyed my 4B st and BP 25 for around nine years. They seem to have improved even lately!(my imagination ?) How do you check or change the bias? I would assume by now the 4b could use a tweek. Thanks.........new member...Redbook. :wine:

Hi guys,I had a set of amps before that to my touch were quite hot.
I had purchased a infrared heat sensor gun(canadian tire)point+shoot.
I had taken different readings thruout the day(after they had cooled off totally)
Those had krept up heat wise dramatically.
I took the amps into my dealer and they adjusted the bias(about a three day
operation)as it's not a simple set once and forget.I believe once they had adjusted the bias they had to wait to see if she was going to kreep up(they do)
Also I was told with the top off there will be a heat difference so they would adjust, put the top on,wait, take top off, adjust ,wait ect, until they were as close to the ideal spot as possible.
I believe the 28s,ideally should be @40 degrees celcius,mine @ 39 /42.
Levi,I don't know if the bias goes out of over time,James for sure can tell you.
The 4s++7s,not sure where they are suppose to be set at James :dunno:.
I have been tearing up the music road, rockin down the highway, hmm I had
better put on some Doobie Bros this am, :thumb:..
