So, when building a box out of MDF, are the circled cross braces needed?  I would tend to say no, but I'm not sure.

It would really surprise me if they did anything significant, notice that Dannys box plans don't have em. Neither did the North Creek Thunder cabinet.

Maybe they are extra weight?  :D

Seriously I would guess they are just a building aid.

Well, it's my Google Sketchup work, so I put them there originally thinking the would support the top and bottom panel better, but I have noticed most designs don't have them.

I myself is also looking for design examples of  "scalable" enclsoures for side-firing oppositing dual drivers (with a more narrow front baffle). It would great if someone can give me some pointers.  It will be even greater if they comes with the design of grille. If you are an enclosure designer, please drop me a PM.

Thanks.

I agree.  For me it is for protection during shipping.

Nah...  It got put on hold due to some circumstances that were out of my control.  All the woodworking tools are at my parents house so I have limited access to them.  I hope to start maybe next week.

What did you end up deciding on the box volume?

My plan is 3.5cu-ft not including the volume taken up by bracing or any other intrusions into the box.
