My Media Monkey is not finding the music files
« on: 23 Aug 2010, 02:35 am »
I am transferring and copying my music files from one hard drive to another, as I try to build a music pc server.

My music resided on this hard drive, but my Media Monkey was on my OS drive.

I installed a new MM in my new hard drive OS, and rand it through to build the library, but it doesn't recognize any of the music files that I used Acronis to create an image
copy of, even though I then even told the Media Monkey to look in specific files.
Back on my old system, the MM has all the names of the music, etc. and is looking for the files.

What is going on? Do I need to import THAT MM to my new system? I would have thought that the new MM would have gone through all the drives looking for music files.
I sure hope I have not screwed the pooch on two years of amassing music files. :o

It is unclear exactly in what form the music files exist on the new hard drive.  First you said "I am transferring and copying my music files from one hard drive to another", and subsequently say "...but it doesn't recognize any of the music files that I used Acronis to create an image copy of".

If you have copied an Acronis Image to the new hard drive, have you used Acronis to then restore selected folders and files from the image?  In other words, if you browse the hard drive in Computer or Windows Explorer, can you see the folders and files and play one if double clicking on it?

No, I have to click it several times before I see the music files.
On the MM forum someone told me to do this:

Find your database file, it should located in the folder on your C drive.
C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Local Settings\Application Data\MediaMonkey
The name of the database file is MM. Copy & paste it to your new OS drive.

Open MediaMonkey
You'll notice that all your tracks may be grayed out and won't play if you try.
If this is the case then continue.

Important: Highlight all the tracks in your library first (Ctrl+A).
Goto File, choose Add/Rescan Tracks to the Library.
Select the new location of your files and hit OK.
But it isn't working. I fear I may have corrupted it.
