minimum distance to rear wall?

a friend asks - I don't have much experience other than Magnepans and Tympani 1D many years back - how close can some of your open baffles work to the rear wall and still be enjoyable?

Mine are 1.1 m (driver center) from both rear and side wall, but 45° toed in. There is no damping or diffusor on the wall. I don´t feel the need to increase that distance.

That's a tough question.  The answer will depend on who you talk too.  OB or otherwise, I prefer having the speakers pulled out as far as possible... so mine are situated in the middle of the room.

If they are light enough, you can move them in and out of position so as to keep them out of the way when you're not listening.

Rear wall? Don't you mean the front wall?

Zybar's(George) Emerald Physics were a good 10' from the front wall when i auditioned them recently, and they were incredible so I'd agree with windchaser that the more you can pull them away from the front wall, the better. :thumb:

I'm with Robin on the front wall/rear wall thing. To me, the front wall is what you see when sitting in the listening position. The rear wall is behind you.
That being said, my OB's are about 5' out from the front wall and unfortunately only 2' from the side walls. I wish I had a wider room.
It is fairly long though. so there's about 61/2' behind the listening position to the rear wall.
