Whew! Issue 20 is finally ready...
« on: 27 Feb 2009, 06:45 am »
Hey troops:

Issue 20 is done, but our site is not updated yet.  We are in the middle of a major website overhaul, so here's the direct address to the server so those of you that would like the issue right now can have it.  We've upgraded our server as well, so you should noticed a little snappier download too.

http://tonepublications.com/MAGPDF/TA_020.pdf

I'll make an announcement and those of you on our mailing list will get an email when the new site is done (should be sometime over the weekend).

We've greatly expanded the Table of Contents function, so you won't have to download it anymore to see what's in each issue.  This is going to take a couple of days to upload all of the issues, so pardon our dust.

Also, the blog will move to the main site now and we will be back in the groove of letting you know what we are up to on a regular.

We have hired a few more writers and photographers, so stay tuned.  In addition to the new site, we will be adding a lot more extra content between issues and we will definitely have a Kindle friendly version of TONE by issue 21.  We probably won't have confirmation from Amazon for a while, but at least the issue will be reformatted and optimized to work in the black and white world of Kindle better than just taking our color magazine and letting it come up in greyscale.  That way Kindle owners can just download it from us and upload to their Kindle directly.  This version will probably read a little better on PDA's and iPhone/Blackberry as well.

Lots going on here, we appreciate your patience for this issue and as always thank you for your support.

Jeff, I am getting "The file is damaged and cannot be repaired." error message from Acrobat (and Preview) after downloading the 13.3 MB file. This was duplicated after downloading it a second time. I've never had this happen with toneaudio pdfs in the past. Though, like you stated the download was quicker than normal.

Jeff, I'm curious about this statement in the MagicDAC review:

"Thanks to its ability to process 24-bit/96k files, I was impressed by the dynamics presented with some of my 24-bit demo files, especially the current Nine Inch Nails album, The Slip."

How were you getting the 24/96 content to the DAC?  Sound card capable of 24/96 digital output?

Ha  :thumb:

Yeah, that's why we call it a 'personal' hand truck...folks take it very personally once they own one.

After a few months, folks have told me by email, etc, one forgets how you got on in life without one previously (humans are a optimistic lot, all in all :icon_lol:

Women especially...for whom a 40lb + load of anything is mostly a non-option...glow over that product.

Believe it or not, it weighs 7 lbs...but it's so nicely weighted and the thin-walled aluminum is softer than steel typically is...that many think it weighs just a couple lbs. (as you indicated in the write-up)

Ciao, John

Jeff, it was good to read the 'Maggie' article, brings back my memory from my Maggie days as well. I agree wholeheatedly with your evaluation, for given todays quality servo based subs, combined with EQ capability, they just might be the "if-so fact-so" sub 5k combo on the planet !

And remember, that article was written by a guy that loves MartinLogan.

If you like panel sound, I think it's pretty untouchable for 2600 dollars!
