ok here i go!

first (well since i was a kid) TT arrives monday from the amazing guys at needledoctor, who were probably more patient with me then my mom. it probably won't raise too many eyebrows around here - (although from reading through this circle for a while, i am amazed how non-snobbish and friendly you vinyl guys are compared to the other 'audiophiles' - give yourselves a pat on the back) - a pro-ject debut III in blue. my wifes favorite color. cartridge is a benz MC20e2l. from what i've read and heard, i'm hoping for a pretty good 'get your feet wet' TT without spending a bunch, plus it looks friggin cool. what will raise some eyebrows around here is why i bought it. i just got a new preamp, and it seemed like a shame to let it's phono stage go unused: a custom supratek built for kevin covi's own personal use. it turned out to be even better then advertised - what was billed as a syrah (and started out as one) is actually a cortese with a slightly re-worked power supply, and a full on grange phono stage! all wrapped in a beautiful copper chassis! sounds as pretty as it looks, too. can't wait for my vinyl to see if all the hype about it is justified - i have a feeling it will be...

So you didn't second mortgage the house to get a table! Now you can start getting some software. I like to look in used record stores, antique shops and places like that. It's fun to come out with an arm full of records and you only dropped a 20.

Hope you enjoy your experience.

Find a record cleaning regime that you can live with. Some swear by RCMs, but I do it with a steamer and rinse routine. Clean vinyl makes all the difference, a multi $ setup will sound terrible playing noisy records.

first...Congrats on the new TT !

second... I second what Todd says, establish a cleaning procedure that you and your budget can live with. For me , I love my RCM.

wow. just.... wow. i can't believe it. okay i see what all you guys are talking about now. that's sooo crazy, this is vinyl? this is what it sounds like? i remember vinyl as being, you know, listening to my black flag albums all scratchy on my $39 record player and $15 speakers. (BTW finally got my rig up and running in case you haven't guessed). ok. i'm a true believer. for those of you sitting on the fence, do it.

I thing this vinyl thing is back to stay.  I've notice a lot of new pre-amps in the sub 1k price range availble with phono sections............nice. :icon_lol:

I'm just glad I kept and added to my vinyl collection over the years. I would hate to have to rebuild it today, with all these "newbies" raising the demand and consequently the prices.  :violin:
