I was in my local Best Buy the other night

Buying a laptop and wandered into the Magnolia room where they had a pair of Martin Logan prefaces on display playing an uptempo Jazz song featuring horns, piano etc...  through a Denon home theater receiver. For the 5-10 minutes I listened these speakers sounded very articulate and dynamic and I was quite impressed.  This model is fairly new and I believe it replaced the Montage which I don't think was very well received, it lists for approx $1500.00 and Best Buy and Amazon are the only authorized retailers.  it has 3 6 1/2 woofers and an ATF tweeter.  I wasn't able to find very many reviews but the few I did find were very positive.  I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this particular model and what their impressions were, and if anyone happens to find themselves in a Best Buy to go and give these a listen and post their own impressions.  Moderator:  I'm not sure if this is the appropriate circle for this particular topic but I was unable to find another better suited,  I know they used to have a General discussion forum but I see that no longer exists.   http://www.amazon.com/MartinLogan-Preface-Loudspeaker-Surround-Applications/dp/B0018ZDBKW/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_i

No problem ken.... :thumb:

I've not heard these Martin Logan's....but they do build a good speaker.

Reading the Amazon reviews does highlight further costs....

"You will still need a sub for the really low stuff. Understand that they are 4 ohm speakers so your receiver should be of good quality or simply add an amp..."

Other may have heard them....and will add their comments.

Thanks for the response Chris,

They are a 4 ohm load but the receiver they were hooked up to didn't seem to have too much trouble powering them.  The frequency response states they go down to 35hz which isn't too shabby for 2 channel use, and I didn't seem to think they were really lacking in the bass department but I do understand the need for a sub if they're relegated for home theater duties.  I would imagine a good amp or integrated may be better suited but then again virtually every speaker tends to benefit from mo better power.   I realize that alot of people go to Best Buy for non audio purchases (like I did last week for a laptop) and may just want to give these a listen while they're in there, in fact I may go back there with a few cd's for a longer listening session myself.  For the brief time I did hear these they seemed to sound better than the Morel Preludes I currently own.  It's a shame they won't let you take these back to your house for an in home demo. :(
