DoS,
I have a large double cap 100/100 350 volt, WKZ cap in the power supply and two VK 150 350 volts in the preamp chassis. In the preamp chassis one cap seems to be connected to the power outlet(where the umbilical gets attached ) and the other to the output rca's.
Not a technical person so I don't know what they mean, what about polarity, is reversed polarity an issue here>

Thanks

Mike

Your WKZ and VK caps can only be used one way which how they are in the circuit now. Dos comments do not apply to your preamp. You have polarized electrolytic caps and his remarks apply to BlackGate Non-polarized caps. You are good to go.

Mike,

Another voice for the 200 hours to get almost all the way there, but then sometime around 500-600 hours it will just dawn on you when you're not listening for it, that the piece sounds exceptionally smooth all the time (but will always take 30-60 minutes to get there when first turned on.)  I've had several components that either came with, or were upgraded with BGs, and the story is consistently the same.  Actually, I really think the non-polar caps in power-E config can take longer -- maybe 1000 hours.

Scotty said it!

If you make a capacitor burn in machine Non-polars can be burned in like any capacitor, and it will only take about 2 hours for them when reversed to act normal burned in, this might work for super-e configuration too.

Ok, I just replaced the filter caps in my preamp with Black Gates and now it sounds weird.
Great textured bass, tremendous detail but everything sounds like it was pushed in the center towards the back, like a V between my speakers, very recessed at the center, becoming less so as you move to the sides.
I am taking the preamp out of the system to burn in for a 100 hours and see what happens.

Anybody experience weird thing with their blackgates??

Mike

Hi Mike,

Did you replace the main cap (duplex 100uf) in the power supply? If so, how's the burn-in progressing and is there a noticeable improvement in the sound quality? My Mapletree Line 3A came with Blackgates installed only in the Preamp section but not in the separate power supply. I've been thinking about changing the large power supply cap but it's an expensive item ($100) and I also don't want to endure the long break in unless there is an obvious gain in sound quality.
