SST-SST2

Just wondering if anybody has compared their new SSt2 to the SSTs.
Would it be like from an St to SST or even more,we like more,so I ordered the 28SSts today 8) 8) 8).
I do have a couple of 4bssts and another 7Bsst that I  might trade in later.
Very interested in the difference,thanks.

Hi drummermitchell

Thanks for advise on the Sony MDR 7506's, I've decided to get some and ordered a pair - nice one.

I have no experience of the new sq models compared to the SST's. I read in the anouncement for them that James said that the power output has not changed which leads me to believe that the differences would be less compared to the ST to SST which was a big leap in power and resolution.

I have to say though, that you are a lucky man to have all that equipment and to be able to order those new amps and not have to trade your old kit in.

Are you in a famous band i wonder?

Hi Bassmann,I do know they have the same power, just curious of the sonics of how much more they squeezed in.As far as the Sony's,like I was saying all the other headphones I tried were quite harsh on my ears and I kept blowing them as a kick drum has some nice lowend and attack.I think they are quite comfortable musically and wearing them also.I'm not that lucky as I'm stuck with my gear in a 11X12 livin room.We are thinking of adding on or buying a newer house this or next year.
As far as famous(NOT)I could say I was big in the small time and small in the big time.I did play with a couple of bands 6mo tour with Doug & the Slugs in the 80s,and then the Bing Jenson(one Cool Guy) Band.
jammed with Jerry doucette and Alvin Bishop and lots of blues and country rock bands(concerts and bars),
all across Canada.I had an excellent time and then, and then I went to China and got married to an excellent wife(partner)so now I'm trying to settle down,(TRYING).

Hi Drummer,

Congrats on the 28B's and I will be very interested in your feedback on the SST (squared) vs the SST.

Given your background from this point forward I will be showing you much more respect

Hi Drummer,

Hi Bassmann,

I agree that power can be a factor.

In the SST to SST2 question, however, the sonic difference has to come from somewhere else. Just as I was surprised to discover that my 4B ST was clearly outperformed by my lower powered 9B ST and at least one user in this forum mentioned that he felt that his 6B SST sounded different/better than his 4B SST, although their mono channels are supposed to be more or less the same.

I would assume, that such a mono channel being in a compact module (as in a 9B or 6B) has its advantage signal path wise. On the other hand, you have less heat sink surface...

Anyway, there has to be something about signal path, grounding scheme, changed components and slightly modified circuitry that can make a huge difference that you cannot see in a figure like a power rating.

I am looking forward to the first user comments about the sonic differences between SST/SST2 too!

For me, however, being invested in SST 14B, 6B and 3B, an upgrade is very unlikely in the foreseeable future (I have to save a few bucks to get on the SP3 train...  8) whenever that train may start moving ... ).

Cheers!
