Fritz Carbon 7 ScanSpeak Monitors in SE Michigan
« on: 19 Feb 2009, 10:10 am »
I'm back in MI doing some remodeling work on my dads house and was wondering if anyone would like to check out my ScanSpeak based Carbon 7 models that I have here in town?  I'm in St. Clair Shores near Jefferson (I-94) & 10 Mile Rd. or I could bring them over to where-ever for a little audition.  No obligation to buy, I just enjoy hearing my loudspeaker systems with different amps / acoustic environments & I would like to have a few local SE MI AC people give a listen to what I think are a really competitive pair of speakers in the $2-3000 price range.   BTW- I sell these for about $1650 a pair.  You can get more info on them from my web site.

These are a stand mounted design that I've built for about 10-12 years.  They feature a 7 inch ScanSpeak 8545K Carbon fiber/paper pulp cone and a 1 inch 9500 silk dome tweeter in a 17 liter bass reflex cabinet with fantastic bass response to below 40 Hz, with a very natural sounding mid/range & airy highs.  I need to update my web page for this model because I'm using a new series crossover in them which is a more efficient design due to the smaller inductors that are used.  They now have even better bass response, midrange detail & imaging with the same great highs.

Thanks, Fritz Heiler

PS-  I will be showing these at AKFEST in May with Doug Jesse @ ASI-TEK

Hi all,

Just thought I'd drop a note and mention that Fritz dropped off a pair of Carbon 7's for me to listen to for a few weeks.  I listened a bit yesterday (~1.5 hours) and today (~3 hours), but so far I like what I'm hearing.

Compared to my Totem Arro's, Fritz' Carbon 7s sound fuller and go deeper, whereas the Arro's are a bit faster and a bit brighter.  The Carbon 7s also sound more "smooth" -- although I suspect this is a function of the Arro's being faster and brighter.

That's all for now.  I'll post more as I hear more.  I've got a Van Alstine Insight Pre Amp and Amp coming, and according to Fritz, the additional power should bring out quite a bit more of the Carbon 7's strengths.

Recordings I've A/B'd include: Cowboy Junkies - Trinity Sessions, LOTR - Fellowship of the Ring, & Paganini Violin Concerto #1 with Hilary Hahn.  I plan to throw in some rock & blues soon - Zeppelin, SRV, Pink Floyd, & Why Store.

You will not be disappointed!!  Just jammed to Led Zeppelin II on Vinyl.  I need to go back and A/B it a little more closely, as I got too wrapped up in the music, but I swear that John Paul Jones came through much more clearly than I remember in the past.

I put in about 7 hours yesterday comparing the Carbon 7s and Arros, adding The Why Store and Bach's Well Tempered Klavier - Book 1 by Schiff since my last post.

With The Why Store, all I can say is that both speakers can rock, with the Carbon 7s providing more presence!

With Bach's Klavier, the Carbon 7's presented a more realistic piano than the Arro's. The decay of each key was more pronounced and seemed to linger in the air a bit longer -- much more representative of a real piano.

I'll be listening more today and will post again later. . .

Listened to Diana Krall - Live in Paris, Beethoven's 5th & 6th Symphonies - Gardiner, CSN - Debut Album, & Raising Sand by Plant & Krauss.

Only with Beethoven's 5th did I A/B between the Arro's and Carbon 7's.  The larger drivers in the Carbon 7's definitely help with the dynamics of a full orchestra.  They simply project more sound than the Arros.

For the others, I just enjoyed Fritz' speakers.  Overall, the Carbon 7's seem to be "smoother" than the Arro's.  This was particular evident with CSN & Raising Sand.
