cables for the SW12-FR and servo amp?
« on: 26 Jan 2009, 06:02 pm »
Hey all, maybe this will be covered in the amp instruction manual, but it hasn't arrived yet. I'm just wondering what to use for cables, both for the driver coil, and the servo coil? I've got some old Kimber 8TC laying around. Would even something like 12ga extension cord work? I'm assuming hi end speaker cables are not needed, but what do I know?  I've got Reality Cable on the Merlins and love 'em.

You don't have to worry about the wires. The amp comes with the wires pre-attached.

But I'm planning on the amp being remote from the speakers.

The effects of cables are subjective and differ with each person.

Use whatever cable sounds good to you.

Now if you are looking for other cables to try out, I suggest trying whatever you can afford.

I'm a fan of Kimber Kable and think the 8tc would work well.  As would Kimber 8vs, 4tc, and 4vs.

And there are plenty of other brands to try.  If you're buying a kit from Danny consider trying out the nice JPS wire he has.  Although I'm not certain if this qualifies.

12 guage extension cord would pass a signal but I don't think it will perform as well as Kimber or other brands.  It may affect the accuracy and obscure details.  But that's my opinion based on my experiences.

If you are not so picky, it may work just fine.

The key is to try one and listen to it over time.  Then try another and live with it for some time.  Eventually you will find one that suits you.

Cheers.
