Tubes and transformers, everything else is easy and (relatively) inexpensive to find. Smooth sailing until you need chassis....

Merry Christmas to everybody! It's so much fun to talk shop about this, that and the other thing.

I started making a 6N7 push-pull amplifier for the fun of it using output transformers made for 6V6's. It's having a few problems- but I think it's due to improper biasing. The 6N7's have about 250 volts on the plates and I believe they will require a positive bias. That's easy enough to do.

An update on the 6N7 amplifier: It's working!

I've got two 6N7's running in push-pull. It's using a paraphase phase splitter/driver since they have high gain. The 6N7's has 410v on the plates and use a 150 ohm cathode resistor. It's doing around 4 watts/ channel this way.

My goal is to get around 10 watts/channel or more out of these. I do like the sound of these tubes!

The photos are coming out soon!  The prototypes sound amazing. I did some circuit modifications and now she's doing at least 10 watts/channel. They have to be measured on the watt meter and then painted before photos are taken. It's always a treat when a project comes out beating expectations. 

BTW: These are monoblock triode amplifiers.
