What to do with this knee wall???
« on: 2 Jan 2009, 11:30 pm »
I'm wrapping up a few loose ends in my loft and I'm seeking recommendations on how to treat a knee wall that is located 10' behind listening position.  This knee wall (4' x 13') serves as my bar with a granite top and will have 8 bar stools around it so the wall treatment will need to stand up to a bit of abuse.  Because it is the surface directly behind me as I listen I'm wondering if it should be treated with broadband absorbers or some sort of neat sculptural diffusion panel applied to the front.  Any ideas?

Thanks
Chris

10' behind you is enough to potentially make diffusion a viable option.  To get well into the vocal range, the diffusion will be at least 6" thick though.  If you're having bass issues off of it, again, you're going to end up with something 4-6" thick but absorptive.

I realise this is a bit late in the construction to suggest this but could you not do away with most of the wall and keep the end piece and support the worktop with a couple of legs?  This approach could end up costing less then treating the wall. :D
