Any recommendations ? All I have is some Ministry and Skinny Puppy which I listen to occasionally . I realize some of it is pretty harsh but there's much to like also .

I've heard of Einstürzende Neubauten but not their music . Are they listenable ?

some pretty good suggestions already. if you like skinny puppy, you might wanna look into ohGr and download as well (side projects from members of sp). front line assembly is good (especiallay caustic grip, flavour of the weak, and millennium). kmfdm is a good place to start. try their albums angst, nihil, symbols, and adios. obviously nine inch nails is a sure thing. i can't speak to einsturzende neubauten as i'm not terribly familiar with their work.

Which ones sound as good (audiophile wise) as the music is?

I know Nine Inch Nails is amazing quality but, who else is?

No mention of Downward Spiral?!!!!  That's his best album IMO, Broken is amazing too but it's just an EP.

Others I would recommend:

Front 242 (Especially the Up Evil and the Remix comp "Mixage Mutage")
Meat Beat Manifesto, a little more on the electronica tip, but great stuff, especially the Subliminal Sandwich album.
Fad Gadget, not the best quality but if you want to hear who a lot of these guys ripped off this is the original.

Another band I was into in the 90s that nobody knows about is Grotus.  The singer might not be the best but their Slow Motion Apocalypse album has some amazing stuff on it, lots of Middle Eastern/Indian music samples, pretty unique.

To add another and one with female vocals for a bit of variety, Android Lust is worth looking into though a bit more accessible than some of the truer Industrial groups already mentioned. The last two albums (The Dividing and Devour, Rise and Take Flight) also have better than average sound quality.

I'd second the Coil recommendation, and not just for their industrial stuff. They had incredible range and versatility, from the hard techno of "Constant Shallowness Leads to Evil" to the pure shimmering ambience of "Moon's Milk in Four Stages." All in all, some of the most subtle and intricate electronica ever made--AND extremely well recorded.
