Ok, I just got this cdp used.  At first it worked perfectly ( and is in near perfect condition) then after about ten days it would not recognize that a cd was loaded.  A member at av123 said he had switched out this part http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/32-18255.  I'm not much of a do it yourselfer audio wise and I thought I was getting this 
which I thought looked pretty simple.  Four screws and a couple of wires to unplug.  Easy peasy.   But I got this and I thought "Oh shit".  This part is in here:
 and there is lots of "stuff" to undo to get at it and 6 teeny tiny wires to unsolder and resolder.  The bad news: 6 is the total number of solders I have done in my life.  The good news: they all worked!. 
Well too make a long story a bit shorter: Houston we have lift off!  Yeah, baby I'm a geek!  I'm nerd!  It's working flawlessly.  Yeah! 

Had I known what I was getting into I wouldn't have tried it.     The other thing, I can't remember who gave me the link to the part, but in retrospect I don't think he liked me...

Maybe it got dusty or you got a fingerprint on the lens? Check the disc as well.

Seems better today.  I just re-adjusted the transport thingy.  Or maybe it's because it's a different disc?

Wow, do you know Canadians? 
For the record though, I'm more Quebecois now  (this means French Quebecer).  Almost assimilated into the collective: gf is French and just about 100% of my clientele, neighbours and so on.  My family moved to Alberta ( which is a good thing as they make Roseanne look like a NY city aristocrat in comparison ).
