I had Rick Craig at Selah Audio design this speaker in 2007 and although it is an excellent speaker, I would like to sell it for a couple reasons:
1) Like many, I am addicted to this hobby and would simply like to try a new project for a new challenge.
2) I have a Pass Labs Aleph 30 and these speakers did not come out with as high a sensitivity as I had hoped (about 86db), so they aren't a great match.
3) I have several stand mount MTM's and would like to try a 2.5 or 3 way floorstander for a change of pace.
Here are the facts:
Drivers are (2) W15CY001 mid/woofs and (1) Millennium tweeter in each speaker
Cabinets are sealed, approximately .65 cuft with a F3 of 65hz. The cabinets are 1 inch thick everywhere with a single vertical 1" brace. The fronts are solid 1" thick red oak with the rest of the speaker being high-gloss piano black. Despite their diminutive size, the cabinets weigh 40-50 pounds each......very well built.
The speakers have a very crisp sound with great transient response (being sealed helps). If your listening room is small, bass may be adequate but
they really were meant to be used with a sub.
As mentioned, Rick Craig of Selah Audio did the crossover and good components were used......Clarity SA Caps on the Millenniums, Solens on the mid/woofs.
Price: Madisound currently sells the Froy kit (which uses the exact same drivers) for $1120 w/o cabinets. Ostensibly, Rick's crossover is superior in every way and these cabinets are quite nice. Also, I have many speakers "in the rotation" and they have never been driven hard. So I would like to start at $1149 plus shipping (which will likely be in the $120 dollar range to the lower 48). I am somewhat ambivalent about selling so I am in no rush to sell.
These speakers are pictured in the gallery section at the Selah audio website under the caption Iowa MTM.
Here is a link to them at the Iowa DIY event:
