875Z Zone Amplifier
« on: 13 Nov 2008, 12:14 pm »
Hi James,

I am planning on adding a 875Z for multi room audio and would like to know the maximum recommended distance from the amp to the speaker.  How well would the 875 work with the PMC wafer 1 series?

Hi Ash,

A lot will depend on the gauge of the speaker wire used.  If the distance is up to 25 feet then I usually recommend 12 gauge. Our speaker cable is 9.5 gauge and I have used it up to 50 feet for rear channel applications.

I was thinking more of runs between 150 and 200 feet? Too ambitious you think? Would I be better of with powerpacs rather than the 875?

Hi Ash,

Yes the PowerPacs would be the better choice with that long a distance involved. It really comes down to the 'control of the speaker drivers'.  For rear/back channels which tend to be support channels it is not as critical as your front channels.
