Veracity HT3 audition in Ohio.......??
« on: 11 Nov 2008, 10:48 am »
I have AV123 LS-9's on preorder but have been reading iffy reviews on the LS-6's that have been released. I've been waiting over a year for the 9's and for all I know it could be another year before I get them.

Reading many good things about the HT3's I'd very much like to hear them especially in a home theater setup with the HTC (correct model for the center?).

Anyone in the Dayton, Cincy, or Columbus area out there that may be willing to demo their HT3's please give me a pm.

Anyone with opinion on the HT3 vs the LS-9 please chime in as well.

Thanks!!

My HT3's spanked the LS6's we had here.  Check with carusoracer.  He's in Ohio but has no experience with LS's.

A good speaker works in both environments btw.  There's nothing special about a HT speaker.

I'm also planning a GTG in January and you're welcome to attend.  I'm sure Jim will be here, and perhaps Dennis.

If the LS-6s were the ones in Big Red's den when I was there in May after  the Saturday AudioKharmafest, I would tend to agree with Big Red although I was not able to hear them and HT3s side by side or extensively at his house. I heard the HT3s at the AudioKharmafest that day in Jim's demo room, and heard most of the other speakers being demo'd. The only speakers I heard that to my ears that were as clear and immediate, "right there" sounding were the Dali Helican 400 MK IIs (being driven by Bel Canto electronics) for a whole lot more money than HT3s.

It may be meaningless but the Dalis and the Salk HT3s both use some form of ribbon tweeter. Just make the trip to Big Reds house and listen for yourself befoore you follow through on the LS9s.

I don't know beans about the LS-6's, but I doubt that you can explain any significant difference in sound between them and the HT3's by the choice of tweeter type.  I happen to prefer a good ribbon to a good dome, but the differences are pretty subtle compared with other design factors (bass tuning, choice of crossover frequency, crossover integration,  etc).

Hello,

I'm in near Columbus, OH and can try and put something together for a listen. Sorry I'm 2 Ch only at this time and do not have a center, so this might not get you what you have listed for in a audition?

BRM, has a very good dedicated HT room setup if HT is your main point of auditioning. You might want to wait to hear them at his GTG. OTH, bring some good music and we can play tunes 8)

Dennis,

What, in your opinion, are the differences in sound quality between a good ribbon and a good dome?  People often refer to more air with a ribbon, which I assume is a higher frequency extension but potentially at the expense of lower frequency capability and possibly lower power handling.  I would also imagine that beaming would become more of an issue with ribbons with higher frequency extension.

Just curious as to your impression as a designer.

Cheers,
Tom
