Feedback on Panasonic DMP-BD55K
« on: 10 Nov 2008, 04:10 am »
Dear AC Members,

My Denon DVD player recently died and I am looking at a Blu-Ray player as a replacement.  The Panasonic DMP-BD55K seems great because it outputs all formats over 7.1 analog which I can output to my old Marantz receiver which is still in great shape.  I am probably going to order from Amazon mid-week and it would be great if someone could give some feedback.

Thank you,

John

This is probably the BDP of choice at the moment, certainly if you want 7.1 analogue outputs.  Its not the greatest DVD player though.  But once you start playing BDs, you won't want to play DVDs any more anyway.

Home Theater Mag recently reviewed the BD35 and 55 and gave those players glowing reviews.  The only difference between the two are the analog outs of the 55.  They actually rated the standard DVD playback as excellent.  I have the older BD30, but am seriously contemplating going to the 35.      Panasonic players have, thus far, been at the top of the blu-ray heap in terms of performance, support, etc.

john,
you probably already ordered it by now. I just received and connected mine today-like you said, lots of deals to be had. I just finished Master and Commander BD (my first viewing)-whoa. I will compare the pana DVD playback to my Denon 1730 DVD once I get another HDMI cable. Let us know if you like the DVD playback on the pana, if/once you get it.

I've just pre-ordered one of these myself, it's my very first BD player aa unfortunately they are out of stock so I will have to wait for a week or 2 before they ship it to me - meanwhile I was wondering if you guys could tell me what you make of the sound quality? I only trust professional magazine/internet reviews up to a point

I am also interested in how it performs as a transport as I will probably use it with my DAC for now has anyone tried it as a TP>DAC?

Thanks in advance for your first impressions :thumb:
