I'm hoping for a software solution for my HTPC to equalize my music.  I will have to place some nice 3-ways near a wall and this is unavoidable.  I want to be able to tone down the bass which I know will probably be accentuated by the close proximity to the wall.  I know iTunes has an EQ, but I currently am using Vista Media Center and have about 400 CD's already ripped to my hard drive uncompressed. 

I'll be feeding the output via USB or optical to a sound card (possibly an internal sound card). Any ideas?

Personally I'd look at some corner bass traps along with other room treatment instead of messing with the audio signal. I just don't like equalizers myself so I thought I'd throw that idea out for ya.

Thanks, but I don't have a dedicated room for audio.  The equipment will be hidden and the speakers will span a couch in my living room.  The speakers are meant to accentuate this room, not dominate it for audio perfection.  Admittedly not perfect, but I'm sure I'll enjoy my tunes anyway.  EQ is the only way right now.

Well this isn't what you're probably looking for either but when i was using my HTPC sound card, I found DFX Audio Enhancer from www.fxsound.com to highly enhance the sound from my system. It wasn't til I discovered USB transporters that I didn't need DFX anymore. Might be worth giving it a free tryout for the heck of it.

If the VST is 24 bit or higher (most are 32bit now) you will not have any noticable loss in fidelity. Not sure if the host program must be 32 bit also to allow the full depth of the plugin to survive, that's above my pay grade. Check any freeware plugins that they are not oldie moldy 16 bit.

Damn Robin, that looks COOL! Put that on a big screen monitor between the speakers and hide all the metal box components! hehe
