Herbie Hancock: Possibilities

This is a very entertaining DVD about artists at work.  There is an album by the same name and this is the documentary about its making.  I recommend this DVD to new acquaintances round here to expand thier horizons in music and to my daughter's friends who sometimes have a look on their face as if to say, "what's cool about jazz?".  This is a fine example and it's loaded with surprises . . Annie Lenox making a song by Paula Cole, vocal improvisations by Sting, a couple of young Irish singers undertaking Billie Holiday's "Don't Explain".  For those who don't know, that song sung by Billie will cut you to the bone.  No song known to me speaks more clearly about its subject (pathos and surrender) or is sung more pure.  Lots of ensembles on this and a beautiful look into art in the making and HH's psyche.  A lot of artistic openess and discussion in this.  It's a good place.

I watched this documentary a couple of times a few months ago on Showtime. I enjoyed it so much the first time I had to watch it again while Showtime was running it. As Jim says, it's very good look into the making of this album from the outlook of it's artist. Highly recommended! :thumb:

Cheers,
