I was wondering if anyone here uses Minidisc?

I know that when Sony introduced them, their intention was to replace cassettes with it's quality and functionability.  A lot of people thought that Sony was trying to replace CDs, which is not the case at all.

I bring this up because there was a recent thread on "Cassette" tapes.  So I was wondering why anyone hasn't given this technology a try?  I know MP3s are pretty dominant, but it doesn't work as a stand-alone (computers) like Minidisc can.

Just wanted to know of anyone's input on this.

I have a minidisc player.  I used to use it when I was in school around campus, but now I have no use for portablity. I hooked up my minidisc component unit up to my main system and almost vomitted. Do not buy minidisc for sound quality.

I have the original MDS-501 from Sony (yeah, I'm old).  I have it hooked up to my main ht; why I don't know.  It is a very expensive paperweight.  Sony brought this technology out as a means to have an enhanced recording experience prior to cd burners but never marketed it at all.  I never play it though I have probably 35 discs recorded.  It fills an empty spot in my tower so for now, I'll leave it there to hide some wires but eventually, it'll be replaced with something of value.

I think the minidisc missed its true calling as a computer storage device.  It'd be great for that.

I was really interested in MD for the car until CD-R prices got so low.
