I had a pair of Polk 5's up until a couple of years ago, when one died, paired with a NAD 7020 receiver, which my sixteen year old son is still using. They were a very nice combo.

hard to beat a pair of proac tablette 8 reference signatures.  well, mebbe my meret re's would, by yust a smidge, but these are (were) almost twice the price, and a bit more than twice the size.  there's yust something magical about the positively tiny ref 8 sigs, especially when crossed over to subs...  i also thoroughly enjoyed a pair of diapason adamantes lll's.  and, i suspect the artemis eos' are fantastic - tho i never heard them they were desgned by the same designer of the meret re's; were almost three times the cost, and took the re's incredible build quality even further...

i also had the usher s520's, and i have a pair of upgraded dillon acoustics ego kit speakers - these are both phenomenal performers for the price...

I like my Harbeth HLP3s and I really liked my AR4xs back in the day.

I've never owned a pair, but most of the bookshelves that I've heard that use Seas Excels I've really liked.

The Zaph Audio ZDT5's seem like a cool project as well...I'm a huge fan of SS Revelators as well...

Ditto on those woofers. Seas Excels are what you'll find in my five Selah Audio speakers. Hard to find a better value speaker/kit than what Rick Craig can do. Also like the SS Revelators, and a good choice there is the ACI Sapphire XL, in addition to more designs from Selah.

Holy Smokes!
I totally forgot about Harbeth speakers.
I've never heard a Harbeth speaker that wasn't a winner. I'd love to hear them compared to my Keplers, I think it would be pretty close one way or the other.
Great speakers and they should be on any short list of the absolute best bookshelf speakers.

Thanks for mentioning them.

PS: Now that I think of it, one of the members of our Audio Club has a pair of HLP3s (at least I think they are). I'll have to ask him if I could bring my speakers over for a listening session.

Mustn't forget one of my all time faves, even if not the last word in tonal accuracy - Epos ES-11s.
I think the fact the woofer is direct coupled to the amp is part of the reason. This was an early example of drivers with "phase plugs" attached to the pole piece - a novelty for the time (1993).
Around that time I got a pair of Tannoy PBM 6.5s - an amazingly capable and cheap pair of small speakers that pretty well destroyed most of what was going around at the time (1992) in the usual home speaker market. These were intended as budget studio monitors and, as such, went really loud and played at moderate volumes with an ease that was not typical of the typical home hi-fi speaker of the time. A number of my musician friends promptly sold their speakers and "moved down" after hearing these.

My favorite Monitor that I have heard is the Magico Mini.

A more realistically priced monitor is the Kef Reference 201/2 and then the Lipinski L-707.

I had a pair of the original ACI Sapphires in a few years ago and I loved them.  What a value they were - I wish I had them back.  Never heard a cleaner or more robust sounding pair of bookshelves.

My present day favorite has to be the Silverline 17.5.  More body than the little Magico, the 17.5 throws a holographic soundstage that is beautifully focused and tactile.  Expensive, but worth every penny...

I'm basically a floorstander man but have had a few bookshelf speakers that did a nice job . Presently have a pair of Klipsch SB-3's in the spare room that are very lively .
