Fritz's Carbon 7 ScanSpeak Monitors in Michigan
« on: 20 Oct 2008, 03:08 am »
I'm back here in MI visiting my dad, sister & some friends and was wondering if any AC members (or any of your audio buds) would like to check out my ScanSpeak based Carbon 7 models that I have here in town?  I'm in St. Clair Shores @ I-94 & 10 Mile Rd. (near Grosse Pointe) or I could bring them over to where-ever for a little audition.  I would like to have a few local SE MI AC people give a listen to what I think are a really competive pair of speakers in the $2-3000 price range.   BTW- I sell these for about $1650 a pair.  You can get more info on them from my web site.

These are a stand mounted design that I've been building now for about 10-12 years.  They feature a 7 inch ScanSpeak 8545K Carbon fiber/paper pulp cone and a 1 inch 9500 silk dome tweeter in a 17 liter bass reflex cabinet with fantastic bass response to below 40 Hz, very natural sounding mid/range & airy highs.  These mid/bass drivers that I use are the same ones that are in many highly rated & reviewed models that are priced from $2,500 to over $17,000 a pair.

If you are near Royal Oak, or know of any one else that may be interested, I also have a pair that you can check out in a high end audio store on Woodward ave.  For the address or more info, e-mail or leave your phone number & I will call you back.

Thanks,  Fritz Heiler

FRITZSPEAKERS-   RETURNS (to) MICHIGAN AUDIO FEST!

Hi-  I'm going back to Michigan (Detroit area) to visit my dad, sister & friends and check out the fall colors & was wondering if anybody would like to audition my Scanspeak Carbon 7 models that I had left there after showing them at the AudioKarma Fest in May.  I've been building this model for about 10 or 12 years now & would say that these compete with all the top name monitor loudspeakers that retail for 2-3 times more than what I sell them for.

I would also enjoy hearing any members systems that would invite me into their homes for a quick listen, especially Salk owners.

Thanks,  Fritz Heiler

I assume you're using an 8545 woofer? Are you using a ScanSpeak tweeter also? 9300/9500/9700? Just curious as they're an exact match to my Lorelei's. :D

Cheers,
Robin

Is there a reason why you won't mention the type Scan Speak drivers that you're using in your Carbon 7?

If he's been making this speaker for that many years...it's pretty safe to assume
your 8545/9500 guess is probably accurate. ACI jags, Northcreek, Proac et. al., have
used that combo to good effect.  My neighbors Merlin's use an 8545 derivative.

Being a carbon 7" woofer, it pretty much has to be the 8545 but I was more curious as to the tweeter he's using. The 9500 would be the safe way to go for sure but I for one am glad I have the 9700 in my Lorelei's. :D  Fritz does offer an upgrade to a ScanSpeak Revelator tweeter, probably the 7000. :o

Hi Robin- Sorry for the delay, my dad isn't doing very well right now & I forgot to bring my laptop & do not have easy internet access.

BTW- I just modified the original post with more info.

Anyhow...  Hello, my name is Fritz & I'm an audio junkie.  I pretty much buy all the drivers that I can get my hands on to measure, test & play with to see which ones I think sound the best in my different designs.  (You can look on my custom finishes page to see some of them).   I have over a couple of dozen different sized test boxes with removable baffles & tuning port sizes for proto-typing new drivers.

I have used all the Scanspeak tweeters in either my own designs or custom ones that I build for other people & I actually prefer the 9500 tweeter in my Carbon 7 design over the standard revelators (9900 & 9700).  I like the damping factor of the ferro-fluid in it.   I'm also always trying out new crossover parts & circut designs in the pursuit of better sounding loudspeaker systems.   I should update my web page for this model because I now have a series crossover in them which is more efficient & has better bass response & mids with the same great highs.

Thanks,  Fritz Heiler

Thanks Fritz for sharing your time with me. Sorry to hear about your father tho but if I were I were in the market I would have definitely liked to hear your Carbon7's. I'm a big fan of Scan Speak drivers since having them in my system for the last few years. Hopefully someone will not only try a set but post a little something. Thanks for your time Fritz. :thumb:

Cheers,
Robin

The Carbon 7 are great speakers. I have been using them here in southeastern michigan since last may. If you want a top notch quality monitor that has deep bass extension and crystal clear highs and is under $2000, I would put the Carbon 7 at the top of the  list, definiately out performans more costlier monitor speakers. They take a good amount of hours to break in I noticed and blossomed right up!
