Don't pay a bunch of money to buy a dozen or more smaller value K40Y9 caps when you only need two of each value.

I have purchased 50 each of the paper in oil K40Y9 capacitors in 0.047uf and 0.001uf values.  These fit into positions C 202 and C204 on the C or C2 boards.  They provide a small footprint and deliver a significant piece of the overall RIAA passive filter.  I think I should be able to ship the four required caps out to anyone that wants to evaluate them for less than 9 dollars with shipping.

The previous caps were fairly simple to remove and replace and the sound improvement was noticeable and amazing from the very first needle drop.

I have been listening to my really tough "test" albums with the PIO's installed and I have to say these are far more natural and engaging than the orange drops (film caps) or the REL/Multicaps (styrene and tin) I have tried.

They removed a bit of technicolor splash vs the styrene caps and just let the music flow in realistic and majestic fashion.  I like things to sound life like, the same way they would sound if listening to a live performance.  These inexpensive PIO's are definitely able to take me there.  Sometimes the expensive stuff is not better.  This is one instance where a penny saved delivers 1000 times the cost of admission.

By the way, I put my Teflon caps in parallel with the Mundorf caps in my Cornet2 this weekend, and all I can say is wow! A pronounced increase in bass slam and soundstage. Thanks for all your efforts!

Great!  Exactly what I experienced on mine.  But what about the tone of wind instruments, the warmth?  Do you noticed anything?  My obervations were that with the teflons, the sound is clean, huge, and dynamic as hell but in my system, I lost the SET magic.   Hmmm, maybe I am doing something wrong here.  I guess it's time to review Jim's (tubesforever) previoust posts and see where I miss the beat.

I took the teflon off and use it as PSU decoupling caps on my other amp.

Abe

Abe, You can try dropping the value on the Teflon. I added .1uF teflon and same thing happened. Lost the nice mids of the beeswax but dclean dynamics way up. So what I plan is to swap in a .015uF in place of the .1. The .1 is in the midrange handling range while the .015 is up in the top mids to topend.

Here is a nice trick as well. Use a 1uF foil + .1uF PIO + .01uF teflon. All the right material acroos the right geomertry for the range it handles best. I did a similar thing in my NAD CDP and it is very nice.

Ahh, there you go!  Something to look forward on my next venture.  Thanks Pat (and Jim), your suggestions makes it worthwhile to make some time experimenting with the teflon caps again.  Thanks!

Once again Jim (tubes) comes through in record time. The caps look great, between these and the FT-3 and some Obbligtos I have stashed it's time to rip the Cornet apart.

Hi Mike,

I've also ordered 1.0uF Obbligato and 0.1uF FT-3 waiting to overhaul my Cornet2.  It's busy season for me at the moment.  You likely will get yours done before I get to do mine.  I would love to hear what you think about this upgrade.

I have Obbligatos in my Castanet and just bypassed them with FT-3.  I hear increased clarity in the mid and more air in the high.  They are staying in the Castanet.
