I understand the hesitation. They have gold plated connectors with split center pin. The cable is RG-59/U and the cable is somehow molded into the connector, although it looks like the connector should screw apart, like a monster cable. I think for the price, what do you have to lose? If you don't like them, throw them away or give them to the neighborhood kid. I'm actually impressed with the build quality and sound quality. I have no idea what the profit margins are on these (not much). Even Bluejean cable talks about the good virtues of using coax cable and the impedance is ignored in audio applications. I say try a pair, you might be out $8 dollars including shipping, but then you might just as well order what you need. If these are not for some ultra listening source, I don't know how you can go wrong. By the way, they really seam indestructible for build quality, not like the really cheap cables that would come with a cheap CD player. I think the connector RCA plug is aluminum with a nickle plating, then a gold plating (for metal compatibility).

I went ahead ordered 6 pair of Monoprice cables and 3 pair of Blue Jeans Cables.  I have enough of the BJC's to put in the most critical locations, and monoprice everywhere else.  Total investment under $150 with all shipping included, so hits the budget nicely.   I'll actually be curious to see how different they sound to me.

BTW thanks for asking. I'm doing pretty good. The first 72 hours I was under extreme pain. But I'm back on track............witness my spunky old self on AC threads.

Monoprice is truly a wonder of sweatshop engineering  :) I have some of their large gauge HDMI and their metal connector toslink cables for my video connections and they are not only extremely handsome but perform as well as anything else I have used.

How they can sell those RCA's for $2 a pair is beyond me...but I am sure they are competitive with the signals and BJC's just based on the labor cost difference.

I am a "believer" in cables however they are also the area with the largest diminishing returns as you go up the price ladder.

I think you'll like the Blue Jeans Cable IC's - i have a few.

The wiring used is top notch.   I replaced the RCA's on mine and that made them sound less congested, sweeter.

My home benefits from heavily shielded cables though...

My personal favorites are the Outlaw Audio PCA interconnects. Quality material, excellent workmanship, locking barrels and very reasonable prices, $40 for a .5m pair, $50 for a 1.2m pair.  :thumb:

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Parts Express's house brand... something like Dayton Audio.  You get a good (very well built) product there for a very reasonable price.

Monster Cable.  Don't let oft-misplaced audiophool prejudice about their company sway you....

I've never had a problem with Monster's build quality, I just think they're over-priced. At any price point I have always been able to find a better cable for less money. As always, IMO, YMMV, yada yada yada.

Signal Cable Analog 2 was thrown is an a freebie when I bought a secondhand SB3. I am quite impressed with its build quality and performance and now use them between my tuner and amp.

I received the Monoprice interconnects earlier in the week, and the Blue Jeans Cable interconnects yesterday.  Looking at build quality alone, the BJC's are better, but I wouldn't say by a huge margin.  Keep in mind we are talking about $32 vs. $2.37 for the cables.  You can buy 13 monoprice cables for less than one BJC.  I'm surprised the monoprice cables are built as well as they are at that price.

The connectors used by BJC have a nice look and feel to them.  By comparison the Monoprice connectors are made from some fairly cheap feeling and looking plastic.  They are perfectly functional though, and well attached to the cable.  Both connectors are gold plated at the business end.  Both cable use shielded coax, so both are nice and meaty looking but still flexible enough to be practical.  A surprising number of similarities for such a huge price difference.

One thing I don't like about the monoprice cables is they grab the connector too hard in my opinion.  It requires considerable effort to push these on and pull them off.  If you set them up once and forget them, no problem.  I'm a chronic tinkerer so I'll try to be sure to put these to use where they are less likely to be disconnected.

On the BJC's, though the connectors are nice they are very long.  Long enough I had to push some of my equipment out a bit to accommodate them.  If you have tight clearance behind your gear the BJC's might be a problem.

While the BJC's are definitely nice, I am really amazed at what monoprice can put out for $2.37.

Hi Rick

Would love to hear your views between the Monoprice and BJC once they have burnt in!

After some time I plan on comparing them, so see if I can hear a difference.  I don't have an opinion yet on the "great cable debate," and in truth these cables are pretty similar in how they transfer the audio signal.

I'm using the Dayton "digital coax" ones for the monoblocks now. They're built well.

http://www.knukonceptz.com also has some high quality stuff for not a lot of money.
