Passive Preamplifier - Must See- Fantastic Unit!
« on: 10 Oct 2008, 05:32 pm »

Our new passive preamplifier! Two switchless inputs and a single stereo volume control. There are no active components inside to slow down/modify the incoming signal. All inputs and outputs are RCA's located on the back of the preamp. The volume control is smooth and linear, 100% noiseless.

Blair, I think it would help your cause to add inidicators around the volume dial (for ease of reproducing the same level when testing etc) and include some detail (eg. attenuator type, RCA type, etc). Aren't you adding a Niteshade badge on it? Please ignore if this was just an early prototype pic and the final product includes these things.

Thank you for your input. This is the first model out and there will be changes as this product line matures. I do like to keep a clean appearance on all my equipment and tend to lean a little too much in the 'no writing' direction.

The RCA's are chrome plated, solid brass. All internal wiring is point to point, using the same tube amplifier wire found in all my amplifiers. The attenuator is made by Alpha and works as a voltage divider. Grounding is by the star method, with a single grounding point to the enclosure.

I can vouch for Blair's volume control work. The volume control on my Le-100a integrated is one of the best I have owned. Smoothing turning with very fine control over the sound level.

Nice looking piece! you might want to consider a logo (even a small one, somewhere).
