21MP!!! Full frame sensor......
The problem with the current 5D is the filthy sensor- those bloody full frame chips are like magnets when it comes to dust.

I was planning to get the 1Ds MkIII for $8k now if I wait a bit longer I'll get the 5D MKII for 1/2  that

yeah but the 1D Mark IV won't be 21MP I guessing it will be around 14-16 as the current one is only 10MP -- I not a fan of the camera. Last time I used it I found the images a bit dull- the 5D was better with colour and skin tone.

but if you can wait a few years and get a "Mark XIV" I'm sure it would improve by then.

I hope you guys know this is a really sick hobby.  :green:

I've gone through a brand new 5D a couple of years ago, only to, after a couple of months, trade it (plus cash) for a used 1Ds2, then after a few months, sold most of my gear, and then after a few more months, got another used 1Ds2 and am now (not terribly successfully) trying to just collect the lenses I know I will use.

If I can stop buying high-end audio gear, I'll just be hiding in the weeds waiting for a 50L F/1.0 to appear.  :thumb:

Completely nuts!

My path is a bit like Goosepond's--I started in fotografy in 2000, with EOS stuff that fall with the D30, had pairs of those, pairs of D60s, and then one of the 1Dses that arrived in Phoenix that 1st day.  Eventually settled on a bunch of primes including a Zeiss/Contax Distagon T* 28/F2.  My passion for landscape fotografy died a couple years ago and all that wonderful stuff sold. Bought a Rebel XTi/BG/17-85 for casual shooting.

Now I'm back to landscape fotografy and a couple weeks ago bought a 5D/BG/24-105L-IS, have a 17-40 on the way, and am looking again at the Zeiss/Contax Distagons, this time an 18.  Oh well.  Sure is fun. :D

I am sure NOT tempted by the new 5D2, altho it'd be excellent for my needs; it's just too much money right now.  Maybe for $1500 a couple years from now?

I forgot to mention I've still got a 10D and a 17-40L. Loaned (but will he give them back) to my son. He can have the 10D but I'd sure like to get the 17-40L back. I bought a new 16-35L II in January, turned right around and sold it when I realized I had more use for a 24-70L.

I also gone through 2 85L F/1.2 lenses, each time selling them because I have no use for that beautiful hunk of glass.

Add a 300L F/2.8 IS and a 200L F/1.8 to the long list.

And a couple of Zeiss, Zuiko and Leica's as well.

About a month ago, I bought a used 14L II, kept it a couple of weeks and couldn't resist selling it when someone came looking for one.

I still have 10D too. It serves me well, but i plan to move on 50D, instead of 5D MKII since I can't justify for the cost and  i don't make money on it. Just my hobby.

Looks like a must have...

I don't care about the 21mp sensor, more concerned with high ISO performance
for shooting concerts and that Live View function is awesome!  Really helps with
tight macro shots.

I tend to keep cameras for a long time.  Bought the 5D when it first came out
and still love it.

Here's a couple of links showing what the 5D Mk II can do on the video side, and a test drive of the camera in total.

The video on the MKII is unbelievable, the low light is excellent.

Whoah!  This is from a still camera?  Amazing.  Some of the smoothest video I have ever seen on a computer monitor.

The video was shot at the equivalent of iso1600 f/2 1/15th.  That is quite doable for even the newer 1.5x crop cameras, not to mention the full frame monsters like the 5DmkII and Nikon D700/D3.  I can't wait to see the noise on stills at iso3200.  Right now, I don't really see any weaknesses in the 5DmkII at all.

I may have to obsolete my XTi after seeing this...  :o
