It was three-four months ago, maybe.  Spearit Sound in Boston.  Here, it is listed on their web site, if case someone doesn't believe me or wants to buy one.  It's on sale, too.

It is the V2, when they made the V2, they discontinued the regular 540c.

Nope not yet,,,
A good combination that I found Works Very well is a used Music Hall CDP 25 or 25.2,,,,it has a digital out but most important it uses one of the Best Transports made,,,by Phillips the people who invented the Compact Disc,,,(ya I know Sony was involved too).  You can pick these up used for 2-300 bucks,,link it with the Insight and you'll have the Best (digital) system for around a grand,   :)

Happy listening,,

Since I'm only kind of a computer geek, here is a dumb question. Since none of us that use the DAC really want the rest of the crap that comes with a cd player, how hard would it be to "make" a transport? Don't computers (desk tops) have drives that are removable? What else do we need to make the damn thing work, other that a digital output? and to further this question, why doesn't anyone make a "transport" only cd player......Frank? Humm, an AVA CD transport.........OK, I'll  shut up.

A transport-only CD player is already being made...it's called a transport. :thumb:

I imagine you could make your own transport from a CD-ROM but it seems like a big hassle.  You'd have to give it a power supply, external connections and housing box and you'd still not have an LED readout or remote control unless you bought a really fancy drive.  I think it'd be much easier to buy a cheap CD player and use as a transport than to invest all that time into turning a CD-ROM into a transport.

Thats what Oppo's are for.  They are cheap, play SACD's and are a pretty good DVDP as well.  The new Oppo 983 is excellent and they are coming out with a New Blu-Ray, DVD, SACD player.

I second the Music Hall 25.2.  I have one and it has a very nice transport mechanism.  Its a nice sounding player as well.
