Question about new homemade bass trap
« on: 27 Sep 2008, 02:56 am »
I just finished using some of the O.C. 703 that I bought to create a panel for a corner designed something like:

                         ----------------------
                               --------------
                                   --------
                                      ----
with each layer 2" thick.   The front is 44" wide and 7' 10" tall.  Now the tricky part, the wife acceptance factor.
The frame is 1X4 and the front is covered by a wool Persian rug.  I have no doubt that it will reduce the bass reflected from the corner, but what will be the effect of a thick wool rug on the treble and mid clarity?

it is impossible to say unless you test it, but I would think it is going to absorb some of the upper high end also. All and all I think you are fine for corner bass trapping. If it was used on the side walls I may vote against it though.

I'd agree.  A thick wool rug should be pretty much just as effective in the mids and highs as the 703 would be if it weren't covered.
