Do you ever feel like....

Do you ever feel like.... you just about done with your room/gear/setup?

I know silly question given the "you are never done, it's never cheap and never easy" audience here.

... but there really is nothing on my gotta have list right now.

I have a 7.1 HT with 720 projector and still enjoy upconverted DVDs on an Oppo 983 and a 100" screen.  I know, y'all think I should drop some on a Blu player, but honestly ehh, I'm fine with the Oppo and lower costs DVDs.  I even had a tosh A2 HD player for six months with last years BF sale and was not that impressed.  OK, you say, so get a 1080p pj... nope, I'm good with 720p for now.  My room is as treated as wall space permits, so I'm done there.

Next up I have a 5.1 system in the FR with a 42" 1080p LCD.  Honestly I don't see much of a difference to 720p, but again I am only using an oppo 981 upconverter to 1080p, no Blu.  This room is for casual viewing and is for the kids, wife, etc. so it gets the cast offs from the HT. I'm not gonna spring for Blu in this room.

But what about a nice 2 ch system, yup got one with a parasound 2100 pre, separate amp, turntable, SB3 external DAC + Perpetual tech speaker correction system and (good enough) Rocket 750 tower speakers.  Yeah, I could go nuts upgading my speaker XOs, but honestly ever time I've sat thru an XO A/B comparrison, I yawn and think "big deal" ... that's it for XXX dollars.

I feel like the industry is just hyping the crap out of 1080p/Blu and is just lusting after my dollars when I am pretty happy with SD DVD and 720p/1080i HDTV.  I think my 2 ch system is about as good as my ears will ever hear for the price range I reside in, so all I do now is sit back and enjoy the music/movies/HDTV.  What's wrong with me.....

Oh and for those interesed, here are my two main systems:

/~HT~/ Sony HS60 / Integra DTC 9.8 / Sherbourn 7/2100 / Oppo 983 DVD / Tivo S3 + 1TB / Rockets 760s / 200 / ELT LRS(sides) + DPA(rears) / MFW-15 sub / Panamax 5300 Line Conditioner / HarmonyOne URC

/~2 CH~/ Parasound 2100 / Integra 2.1 / Rocket 750 Sigs / UFW-10 sub / P. Tech P-1A, P-3A, P3b w/ SOCS / SlimDevices SqueezeBox SB3 / Pioneer PL-510 TT / Panamax 4300 Line Conditioner / RS 1994 + JP1

- DIY some cables. Source cables, speaker cables, power cables, and video cables.
That will keep you busy for a while.

- Spend you money on content.....DVD's, CD's, etc... Some folks might even say you should get a turntable.

- What about room treatment?

- What about active EQing

- What about Open Baffle? It's the new (old) rage.

- You didn't mention your 100" screen material. Whatcha using? How about upgrading that?

- You could just be content with what you have and hang around and chat with those of us less fortunate than you that "haven't found our way", so to speak.  :P

- You could get a new hobby.....Model trains, R/C aircraft, etc.....

I'm always looking for cost effective ways to improve my system, mainly on the used market. That doesn't mean I'm not happy with my system the way it is right now, just that audio and/or HT is a hobby for me. Almost by definition a hobbyist is always looking to improve or tweak their system, that's the nature of all hobbies.
