Simple FryBaby question
« on: 24 Aug 2008, 03:44 pm »
What are the 3 switch position settings?  Turning the knob clockwise, looks like MC, MM and line. Is this correct?  Getting ready to test this out.  I only have a couple wires to solder.  Got a red blinking LED when I did a battery test, so hopefully all is well!!   Thanks.

I guess I need to put this info in the manual (doh!).  CCW is OFF.  Then MC, MM, and LINE in that order.

Thanks,

What is the proper way to burn-in an SUT?  I am now attempting this, using LINE and connecting via an RCA pair.  This seems clear.  BUT, what about CURRENT mode for an SUT?  I read an earlier post where you said to do this by "shorting the secondaries".  Does this mean that I should use an adapter to connect the 2 RCA outputs of the SUT?

Thanks again.

Yeah, use a female to female RCA adapter.  Connect secondaries together.

I burned in an SUT following JH's instuctions.  I first tried the SUT out of the box, then burned in for 24hrs directly, then another 24 with the SUT outputs connected via a female-female connector.   The results were outstanding!!  I must confess I was a skeptic, but no longer so.  Whatever that device did and however it did it remains a mystery.  Another highly satisfactory outcome courtesy of JH.  My success string is now a Cornet2, Clarinet, Ripper, Piccolo, Bugle, Bugle PS,  (not hooked up yet), 2 UFO's and a Frybaby.  Thanks to the engineer once again!!   :) :)

The only dumb question is the one that is not asked.

I would like to know what an "SUT" is also.

Thanks,
Jack

"SUT" means Step-up Transformer.  That is the passive device used to boost the output of a low-output moving coil cartridge to appropriate levels for most phono pre-amplifiers.
