I am trying to install Win XP on a Raid0 array without success. I have an ASUS P5Q mobo, 2x 640 Gb WD HDD, E8500 Wolfdale, and a Pioneer Sata DVD-Rom. I used the WD utility to preformat the HDD and they are recognized in bios. I set the system storage in bios to raid and then entered the intel Raid setup but in that screen it does not allow me to select the individual drives. I am at work now so I can't try this but is it possible that the Sata DVD-Rom is interfering since when I select Raid in bios for the sata ports that the DVD-Rom drive cannot function as a raid device? Just guessing, because I have no idea, but I have followed the mobo owner's manual precisely for raid setup with no luck. I have taken it through to Win install to and at F6 loaded the Asus Raid driver, continued XP install and gotten the bsod "problem with hard disc" message.
I actually gave up on this and reverted to IDE for a single HDD install of XP and it worked. My other HDD is also working properly. So the problem is definately in the Raid0 setup process somewhere. I also tried to do a Win XP setup of Raid0 but of course now that the OS is on an IDE setup I can't change the Sata ports in the bios to Raid because then XP won't boot on the IDE drive - so I can't use it to setup the Raid array.
Tonight I wil try setting up the Raid array without the DVD-Rom installed then either put it back in and try to install the OS or find another DVD that is non-sata and try that. However if anybody can help with this I will appreciate it.
