HT bypass
« on: 22 Jul 2008, 01:40 am »
I really don't quit get the gist of what it's for let alone how to use it. I use nothing but two channels from my Candella, and wonder if there's a way to add a second preamp to get use of my two tape decks? Seems like my monos have a second set of inputs built in them, and I'd give almost anything to listen to some quality bootlegs in my stash.
     Any thoughts?

HT bypass is to allow the preamp to sit between a multi-channel HT processor and the amps so when you're doing multi-channel, you just engage the bypass and those 2 channels going through the pre just 'pass through' to the amplifier.  I suppose you could use the bypass for that but then the Candella is out of the loop.

Gary:

I also have a Candela and I use the HT Bypass as my main speakers serve double duty for DVD/HT playback.  The left and right preouts on my Denon 3806AVR are connected to the HT RCAs on the Candela.  Whenever I want to watch a movie I turn the selector switch to the HT Setting and the AVR sends the signal to the monoblock amps that power the left and right speakers.  I am sorry I do not understand the second part of your question as you can connect more than one source to the Candela.

Hey, what tubes have you settled on in the Candela?

That's exactly what I want! Gotta be able to use two tape decks at the same time, and maybe add one more major piece to the ever expanding puzzle.

If I remember right there are two sets of inputs on each of my mono blocs, and was just wondering if I could make this setup come together by feeding each preamp to the inputs of each amp.

That's great - just remember that the Candella will do absolutely zero set up this way.  Volume, switching, etc. is all done through the other preamp.

Depending on the amp, that may not be a good idea.  Not sure if it will muck with input impedance, etc.  Klaus would be able to tell you most likely.

the deal is that I have a few reel to reel tapes that are to die for (all are bootlegs right off the mics at a certain big name jazz festeval). That plus the task of making tapes for my handicaped sister (she enjoys music even more than I do). The other piece of the puzzle is an XM reciever (I have one)that I will use to record the live shows they often do.
Things like The King Bisquit Flower Hour and live jazz for my own personal archives.
    Thanks for the input

I spoke with Klaus the otherday, and he said go for it (adding a second preamp and using the balanced connectors on the amps).
