Been playing Soul Caliber II...

I must say I'm disappointed- the 'box version is actually not as good as the Dreamcast original.  There are some elements of the graphics that are more detailed, but the look is blocky and the chicks look vaguely creepy.  Worse yet, the controls, while not 'loose', aren't nearly as tight and precise as the DC Soul Caliber.

So far I've only played a few hours, but I'll report back once I get a chance to play one on one against another player.

Well I can't say that I can compare the controls to the original I must say that we have enjoyed it around here.  Now we have it on Cube cause we wanted Link and the controls feel tight to me.  Actually the biggest problem we have had was because we use a Wavebird it would get thrown against the ground... ok slammed  .   My roommates are rather competative people so they don't like losing no matter what the reason.  I would just sit and laugh

The control isn't bad or "loose" per se, just not up the the Dreamcast game standard of the original.  Graphically, it doesn't expand much upon the original, either.  So either the DC game was way ahead of it's time or the 'Box version isn't very ambitious.

I agree that it's still fun, though.

The Dreamcast version was WAAAAAAAAY ahead of it's time graphically!  Soul Calibur 2 is a nice update and I would argue the graphics are slightly better than the DC, at least on the GCN version.  I had to sell my DOA 3 on Xbox becuase the fighting engine seemed like it was clunky and non intuitive in comparison to SC2.  I think the controls are pretty tight on SC2, but I should go back and play my DC version again to see if I agree with your loose control issue.

Again, it's not drastically worse, and if I hadn't played the DC version recently I wouldn't have even mentioned it.  Certainly they didn't do a bad job, it's just that I'd hoped for a bit more improvement.  The graphics are slightly better (eg, better texture maps) but on the minus side, the characters are drawn a bit blocky.  And the chicks aren't near as hot!  Especially Ivy; they've drawn her to look like someones grandma! :x

It's still the best fighter on the 'box.  But probably not the best fighter ever- that honor I still reserve for the original DC Soulcalibre.

JMO, of course.
